First impressions

Sortedams Lake in the Indre By (Inner City, Copenhagen K, Downtown Copenhagen) District

Got into Copenhagen in the early afternoon of a very grey cool summer's day. Probably not the best start to the Copenhagen journey. I wasn't quite sure of what to expect but I have to admit my very first impression wasn't that great. I think it was a combination of factors - being tired after travelling with an infant (her first time on an aeroplane), the weather (for once, the weather was actually better in London when we left!), the hotel (lots of little issues) and expecting everything to be 'Scandinavian Cool'. The location of the hotel didn't really help either - central, very useful but close to the train station which for some reason always attracts grafitti. I don't like grafitti.

Once we'd unpacked and rested (I'm 31 weeks pregnant), we took a walk down Vester Sogade on the banks of Lake Sankt Jorgens So. Very popular with joggers. The one thing that became obvious was that my Bugaboo Bee which is absolutely fantastic for London (it's narrow and light) just doesn't work as well here. The buggies here tend to be bigger, wider and have inflatable tyres which work far better on the pavements here than my Bugaboo Bee. Thankfully my double buggy has inflatable tyres so that should work much better here.

There's seems to be a lot of construction everywhere. And a lot of bikes. I was prepared for that but it's still something to actually see all of them on the streets. Apparently, bikes have priority over motorists and sometimes even pedestrians. Not quite sure about that - the pedestrian bit. There's definitely a lot fewer people on the streets than back in London.

So our first big dilemma is to figure out where to live. Central? The outer suburbs with all the other expats? The ideal location would be somewhere close to wherever I'll be taking the kids, quite central and close to Jack's work. Too much to ask for? We'll see.
